Product Overview
Everbuild Black Jack All Weather Roof Coat in a 5 litre tin is a solvent-based, full-bodied bitumen compound reinforced with fibres for enhanced durability.
Designed as a general-purpose roof coating, it provides immediate resistance to rain wash-off, making it suitable for winter and adverse weather applications. Once cured, it forms a tough black protective layer ideal for waterproofing and surface refurbishment.
The coating bonds reliably to asphalt, built-up felt systems, concrete roof decks, cement sheeting, metal substrates and slate or tile coverings, supporting a wide range of roof maintenance and protection tasks. Its fibre-reinforced structure improves gap-bridging capability and film strength, helping extend the service life of ageing roof coverings.
Brush-applied, the compound forms a durable film that retains stability under typical roof temperatures and provides resistance to dilute acids, alkalis and salt solutions. It can also be used with reinforcement scrims where required, enhancing performance on degraded or movement-prone substrates.
The 5 litre capacity provides enough material for a two-coat application over approximately 2m², making it ideal for targeted repairs rather than full roof replacements.
Features & Benefits
- All-weather formulation: Resistant to wash-off immediately after application, suitable for use when rain is imminent.
- Fibre-reinforced compound: Strengthens the coating film for improved durability and crack-bridging performance.
- Fast drying: Forms a tough coating with predictable curing behaviour in standard roofing conditions.
- Wide substrate compatibility: Suitable for asphalt, felt, concrete decks, cement sheeting, slate, tiles and metal sheeting.
- Dual-purpose use: Can be used for waterproofing and bonding roofing felt where required.
- Consistent brush application: Forms a uniform protective film with controlled flow resistance during curing.
-
Container size: 5 litres is suitable for targeted repair work and small area waterproofing rather than full roof refurbishment.
Applications
- Asphalt roofs: Provides waterproofing and film reinforcement on blistered or weathered asphalt surfaces.
- Built-up felt systems: Bonds, seals and renovates felt layers, including treatment of defects and blisters.
- Concrete roof decks: Delivers protective coating performance when used with appropriate priming where required.
- Cement sheeting: Suitable for dry, sound sheeting requiring weatherproof surface protection.
- Metal roofing and components: Protects iron, steel, lead and zinc where corrosion inhibition is required.
-
Slate and tile roofs: Used with reinforcement to extend life and improve water tightness of older coverings.
Installation Guidance
- Surface preparation: Inspect the roof for structural soundness; replace damaged slates, tiles or sheets and clean surfaces thoroughly.
- Defect correction: Fill cracks in felt or asphalt, repair blisters, and treat green growth using an appropriate cleaning agent.
- Application method: Stir well and apply by brush in two coats, allowing the first coat to dry for 24 hours before applying the second.
- Substrate-specific preparation: Prime porous surfaces and apply reinforcement membranes where substrate condition requires additional stability.
-
Final finishing: For increased longevity, apply a suitable solar reflective coating once the final bitumen coat has dried.
Compliance & Performance
- Storage & Shelf Life: 24 months from date of manufacture when stored in original, unopened containers between +5°C and +25°C.
- Chemical resistance: Resists dilute acids, alkalis, salt solutions and water; not resistant to oils or solvent exposure.
- Service temperature: Performs between –10°C and +85°C once cured.
- Yield: Approximately 0.8m² per litre (1.25 Litres per m²) per coat depending on porosity, with two coats producing a dried film of ~0.9mm.
- Drying time: Typically 24 hours depending on drying conditions; allow 24 hours between coats.
- Important note: Contains flammable solvent; avoid vapour inhalation. Compatible with damp surfaces, but ensure no standing water is present. Always test compatibility before overcoating.
