Product Overview
Febond Blue Plasterers Grit supplied in a 10-litre tub is a high-performance bonding agent designed to prepare smooth or low-suction surfaces for the direct application of plaster. The formula contains fine aggregate particles suspended within a blue-tinted PVA polymer base, providing a mechanical key that ensures strong adhesion of new plaster to difficult backgrounds.
The blue colour serves as a visual aid during application, helping to achieve full and even surface coverage. Once dry, the coating forms a rough, textured film that enhances plaster grip on smooth substrates such as concrete, plasterboard, painted surfaces, or previously plastered areas.
Formulated for professional plastering, renovation, and repair work, Febond Blue Grit simplifies surface preparation and improves bond reliability, particularly where conventional suction control methods are unsuitable. Each tub contains 10 litres of ready-to-use product.
Features & Benefits
- Textured bonding formulation: Contains fine aggregates to create an effective mechanical key for new plaster layers.
- Strong adhesion performance: Promotes reliable bonding between plaster and smooth or low-porosity substrates.
- Blue visual indicator: Ensures clear visibility of coverage during application for consistent surface treatment.
- Ready-to-use consistency: Supplied pre-mixed for immediate use with no dilution required.
- Low odour and easy application: Can be applied by roller, brush, or spray, allowing quick, uniform coverage.
- Reduced preparation time: Eliminates the need for hacking or scabbling surfaces prior to plastering.
- Universal substrate compatibility: Suitable for concrete, brick, plasterboard, painted surfaces, and existing plaster.
- 10-litre tub supply: Provides ample coverage for professional plastering projects and large surface areas.
Applications
- Plaster bonding: Provides a mechanical key for plaster on smooth or low-suction surfaces.
- Concrete and dense backgrounds: Enables plastering directly onto cast concrete or dense blockwork.
- Renovation and refurbishment: Used to re-skim existing plaster surfaces or overpainted substrates.
- Ceiling and wall preparation: Suitable for both vertical and overhead applications in domestic and commercial settings.
Installation Guidance
- Surface preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, or loose material.
- Application method: Stir thoroughly and apply an even coat using a roller, brush, or suitable spray equipment.
- Coverage check: Confirm complete blue coverage with no missed areas before plastering.
- Drying time: Allow to dry completely (typically 24 hours) before applying plaster.
- Plaster application: Apply new plaster directly to the dried, textured coating — no further preparation required.
- Cleaning: Clean tools immediately after use with warm water before the product dries.
Compliance & Performance
- Material specification: Aggregate-filled PVA polymer emulsion with blue visual indicator.
- Adhesion performance: Tested for compatibility with gypsum, lime, and cement-based plasters.
- Coverage rate: Approximately 4–6 m² per litre depending on surface texture and porosity.
- Storage conditions: Store sealed in a frost-free environment between +5°C and +30°C.
- Shelf life: 12 months in original unopened container under recommended conditions.
- Important note: Do not apply to damp or frozen surfaces. Allow full drying time prior to plastering for optimum adhesion.
