Product Overview
Soudal Genius Gun Gap Filling Expanding Foam in a 500ml aerosol can is a one-component, self-expanding polyurethane foam formulated for high filling capacity and precision application. The product incorporates the patented Genius Gun system - an integrated, reusable adaptor for controlled dosing and enhanced handling comfort.
This expanding foam delivers a stable, thixotropic consistency that cures by moisture to form a dense, elastic structure with minimal shrinkage or post-expansion. It adheres firmly to most construction materials, including masonry, concrete, wood, and metal, excluding polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
With a cured density of approximately 25 kg/m³, the foam provides robust thermal and acoustic insulation, achieving a sound reduction value of 58 dB and a thermal conductivity of 37 mW/m·K. Once fully cured, it withstands temperatures from –40 °C to +90 °C, or up to +120 °C for short exposure.
Soudal Genius Gun Gap Filling Expanding Foam 500ml is ideal for controlled cavity filling, sealing, and bonding where a stable, elastic joint is required. Its precise application ensures clean, professional results in static and non-static installations.
Features & Benefits
- Patented Genius Gun System: Integrated ergonomic trigger and dosing adaptor for accurate, one-handed control and reusability.
- High Filling Capacity: Expands efficiently to fill voids and gaps while maintaining dimensional stability.
- Controlled Expansion: Expands approximately 117 % during curing with less than 1 % post-expansion for precise results.
- Thermal and Acoustic Insulation: Provides a 37 mW/m·K insulation factor and 58 dB sound insulation for improved building efficiency.
- Elastic and Compressible Formula: Ensures flexibility and reliable bonding under variable joint movement.
- Fast Curing: Forms a skin in approximately 7 minutes and can be cut after 25 minutes (EN 17333-3).
- Excellent Adhesion: Bonds to most common construction substrates excluding PE, PP, and PTFE.
- Freon-Free Composition: Uses propellants that are not harmful to the ozone layer or greenhouse effect.
- Temperature Resistance: Withstands continuous temperatures from –40 °C to +90 °C and short-term exposure up to +120 °C.
- Can Size – 500 ml: Produces approximately 19 litres of cured foam, suitable for around 17 metres of joint filling.
Applications
- Cavity Filling: Expands to fill and seal internal voids and irregular openings.
- Pipe and Cable Insulation: Provides thermal and acoustic isolation around plumbing and electrical installations.
- Roof Construction Sealing: Closes penetrations and gaps to prevent air leakage.
- Joint Filling: Suitable for both static and non-static joints requiring an elastic seal.
- Thermal Isolation in Cooling Systems: Enhances energy efficiency and prevents condensation formation.
- Soundproofing Layer: Forms a dense, absorptive layer for improved acoustic insulation.
Installation Guidance
- Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or grease; moisten slightly with water to optimise adhesion.
- Can Handling: Shake the can vigorously for at least 20 seconds before use and periodically during application.
- Application Method: Attach and open the Genius Gun trigger, applying foam to fill cavities by one-third of their depth to allow for expansion.
- Layering: When filling deep voids, apply in successive layers, moistening between each to accelerate curing.
- Cleaning: Remove uncured foam immediately with Soudal Gun & Foam Cleaner or acetone; cured foam must be removed mechanically or with PU-Remover.
- Storage: After use, close the nozzle with the supplied bung, replace the cap, and store the can upright between +5 °C and +25 °C.
Compliance & Performance
- Material Composition: One-component moisture-curing polyurethane foam with CFC- and HCFC-free propellants.
- Performance Standards: Tested in accordance with EN 17333 and EN ISO 717-1 for curing time, expansion, and sound insulation.
- Curing Characteristics: Skin formation in 7 minutes; cutting time 25 minutes; shrinkage < 3 %; expansion < 1 % post-curing.
- Strength Properties: Compressive strength ≈ 38 kPa; shear strength ≈ 54 kPa after full cure.
- Shelf Life: 12 months in unopened, upright storage at +5 °C – +25 °C in dry conditions.
- Important Note: Product is not UV resistant and should be covered or protected in exposed applications; always wear gloves and goggles during use and ensure adequate ventilation.
