Product Overview
Bostik Cempolatex Self-Smoothing Compound supplied as a grey, cement-based powder for mixing with water to form a free-flowing, self-levelling liquid.
Designed for interior use, it provides a rapid-setting, durable base for floor coverings on a wide range of prepared sub-floors. The latex-modified formulation gives enhanced flexibility and adhesion, forming a sound, smooth surface ready to receive resilient, textile, wood, or ceramic finishes.
It is not intended as a final wearing surface and must always be covered with a suitable floor finish. The product is typically applied between 3mm and 12mm in a single application.
Features & Benefits
- Enhanced Flexibility: Latex modification allows for minor substrate movement, ideal for suspended timber and mixed sub-floors.
- Rapid Setting and Drying: Accepts light foot traffic after approximately 4 hours and most floor coverings within 16-24 hours at 20°C and 3mm thickness, supporting fast-track installation.
- Excellent Adhesion: Bonds strongly to a wide range of properly prepared substrates, including concrete, screeds, stone, brick, terrazzo, and rigid plywood.
- Self-Smoothing Performance: High-flow formulation enables easy application and a level, uniform finish with minimal trowelling.
- Protein-Free Composition: Eliminates the risk of adverse reactions with sensitive adhesives and maintains suitability in hygienic environments.
- Underfloor Heating Compatible: Suitable for use over piped warm water underfloor heating systems when used as a levelling layer.
- Versatile Application Thickness: Can be applied between 3mm and 12mm in a single pour, with deeper isolated repairs achievable up to 100mm when used in conjunction with Bostik SBR.
Applications
- Interior Floor Levelling: Smooths and levels uneven sub-floors prior to installation of new floor coverings.
- Resilient Flooring Preparation: Provides a stable, smooth surface for vinyl, LVT, and rubber flooring.
- Tile and Stone Finishes: Creates a reliable, even substrate for ceramic or natural stone tiles.
- Timber and Textile Coverings: Suitable for use beneath carpet, wood, and laminate floors where a level base is required.
- Underfloor Heating Systems: Appropriate for application over embedded warm water heating systems under controlled installation conditions.
Installation Guidance
- Substrate Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, sound, and free from contaminants such as dust, grease, or existing adhesive residues.
- Priming: Always apply a Bostik-recommended primer appropriate to the substrate to minimise absorption, prevent pinholes, and optimise adhesion.
- Mixing: Add powder gradually to the specified quantity of clean, cold water and mix mechanically for a minimum of 2 minutes until smooth and lump-free. Do not over-water.
- Application: Pour immediately onto the primed surface and spread with a steel trowel or float to the desired thickness. Maintain a wet edge to blend pours seamlessly.
- Finishing: Use a spiked roller to remove air and improve surface uniformity.
- Underfloor Heating Procedure: Heating must be switched off 48 hours before application, remain off during curing, and be reintroduced gradually after 48 hours.
Compliance & Performance
- Material Composition: Cement-based powder incorporating latex modification for flexibility and strength.
- Performance Properties: Rapid-setting formulation supporting foot traffic within 4 hours and floor coverings after 16–24 hours (3mm thickness at 20°C).
- Substrate Compatibility: Adheres to concrete, sand/cement screeds, calcium sulphate screeds, mastic asphalt (subject to priming), rigid plywood, and firmly bonded ceramic or quarry tiles.
- Application Limitation: Interior use only; not suitable as a final wear surface or for use over water-soluble contaminants or adhesive residues.
- Underfloor Heating Use: Suitable only for warm water systems when used as a levelling compound; not for filling or topping applications with UFH or mastic asphalt bases.
- Important Note: Ensure all substrates are properly prepared and primed. Do not apply over flexible or poorly ventilated timber structures. The product must always be covered with a suitable floor finish.
